Tetracycline Stained Teeth
This patient from Malibu had Tetracycline-Stained Teeth. The stain is permanent and cannot be removed.
Tetracycline-Stained Teeth - Malibu California
Tetracycline stain occurs when the patient is given the tetracycline antibiotic during the time in which permanent teeth are forming inside the jaws. The stain is permanent and cannot be removed. It can be whitened with tooth whitening or covered with porcelain veneers or porcelain crowns. She drove from Malibu California due to the recommendation of a friend.
Tetracycline-Stained Teeth and Teeth Bleaching
Her lower teeth were successfully whitened with a customized teeth bleaching technique that was tailored to the needs of tetracycline stained teeth. See the before and after photos of the lower teeth. They look much better with just custom teeth bleaching. The technique is not Zoom II or Brite Smile or Crest Strips or any other brand named material, but a combination of the strengths that each of the teeth bleaching technologies brings to the dental profession. Dr. Muslin whitens teeth or bleaches teeth by customizing the technique to the needs of the patient. (View Lilly's Tetracycline Stain Case Study)
Her upper teeth did not look good enough with teeth bleaching so porcelain veneers and porcelain crowns were the best choice.

Tetracycline-Stained Teeth & Porcelain Veneers
Porcelain veneers and crowns can usually hide the tetracycline stain. The existing porcelain crowns on her upper right and upper left lateral incisors had to be replaced with new crowns to match the rest of her upper teeth. The patient decided to treat a total of ten upper teeth with porcelain veneers and porcelain crowns and bleach the lower teeth, which do not show as much. This patient received care over 7 years ago and she is still looking great. Her husband was also very happy with the results because he gets to look at a happy, smiling wife every day. He agrees that the drive from Malibu is still worth it just for check-ups.

Porcelain Veneers & Porcelain Crowns
Because porcelain Veneers and porcelain crowns have different thickness, the color matching can be especially difficult when hiding the dark color of tetracycline stain. The artistic dentist can achieve excellent results but has to be very careful about how the teeth look in different lighting. Well-crafted porcelain veneers combined with porcelain crowns gave this patient a balanced smile. The sizes, lengths and gum-line contour are all completed with surgical precision and they compliment the rest of her facial features. Malibu California looks better every time she smiles.
