Crooked Teeth & Invisalign ®
Many patients who have some teeth that are crowded or crooked are not willing to wear braces. They just dread the idea of having braces in their mouth for years and then having to wear retainers the rest of their lives to keep their teeth straight. Some patients are willing to wear Invisalign as an alternative; however, the patient would have to have the enamel ground down between his teeth to get them straight with Invisalign. This patient did not want to wear Invisalign retainers for 19 months either. He came from West Los Angeles, CA for his "instant braces" care.

Braces vs. Instant Braces
Instant braces are actually porcelain veneers, in this case. “Instant braces” is a term for treatment that takes only two visits and is done in about two weeks. No retainers and no braces. This patient was able to have only four teeth treated with veneers, and if you look closely, they are indistinguishable from his natural teeth. In this case, the porcelain veneers required minimal grinding on the rotated teeth. The amount of tooth grinding is so minor, that he thought leaving is West Los Angeles dentist was worth it.

Traditional Porcelain Veneers
Traditional Porcelain veneers vs. no grinding type of porcelain veneers (known as Lumineers and Vivineers, by some manufacturers) have advantages and disadvantages. The advantage of grinding down the tooth a little is that the porcelain can be constructed much thicker. The thicker porcelain veneer can add a much whiter color to the tooth; and if the tooth is ground down, the thicker porcelain veneer doesn't look thick at all. The tooth will have a natural contour because grinding down the tooth a little makes room for the porcelain veneer.
