TMJ - TMD
Los Angeles
This client had a dysfunctional temporomandibular joint and walked away with a new face!
TMJ and TMD
TMJ (temporomandibular joint) is the joint near our ears which hinges our upper (maxilla) and lower (mandible) jaw. The jaw joint or TMJ is the only joint in the body with a physiological component to it. If we are stressed, clench or grind our teeth, we traumatize our jaw joint and have problems with clicking or popping in the temporomandibular joint; this may lead to headaches or migraine headaches. Our bite should be in harmony with the TMJ or the myofacial pain symptoms, such as headaches, can be more frequent. TMD is an abbreviation for the TMJ that is dysfunctional. TMD stands for temporomandibular joint dysfunction or derangement.

Deep Over Bite & TMJ
Many patients with a deep over bite have TMD, and may experience headaches, jaw pain, muscle pain, clicking and/or popping jaw joints. The deep over bite is not in harmony with the TMJ (jaw joint) so the symptoms are worse. This patient, from Brentwood, CA, had a deep overbite and the deep overbite made his chin appear smaller than it really was.

Deep Over Bite Correction
This patient’s face and jaw position were corrected by treating his deep overbite; no facial or jaw surgery was required. Deep overbite correction is treatment that allows the lower jaw to be properly positioned in the TMJ. Correction of the deep overbite can reduce the painful symptoms of TMD: headaches, jaw pain and facial pain. It also allows the lower jaw to reposition itself correctly, rather than the deep overbite forcing the jaw into a bad position. This patient also had a big cosmetic benefit by getting treatment to his deep overbite. Brentwood, California has many fine dentists to choose from, but Scott received care that was highly successful by going to Los Angeles cosmetic dentist Sam Muslin, DDS MAGD.
Neuromuscular Dentistry
Neuromuscular Dentistry involves the science of jaw joint treatment with emphasis on information from electronic equipment. The Myomonitor and Bioscience make the equipment with electrodes placed on the patient's head; this is designed to help the dentist determine the best possible jaw position to alleviate a patient’s pain. Neuromuscular dentistry relies on this equipment to provide visual graphic information on a computer and then interpret this information to treat the patient.
Face Lift Dentistry
Face lift dentistry is the ultimate in cosmetic dentistry. A face lift can be achieved without surgery by only working on the teeth and developing a bite that is in harmony with the TMJ. This patient had a deep over-bite corrected and his jaw repositioned naturally during the bite correction procedure. Every patient has the possibility of having the best possible bite and jaw position with face lift dentistry. Very few patients have the ideal bite naturally.
The Dental Face Lift ® is developed and trademarked by Sam Muslin, DDS MAGD, Los Angeles.
