Renetta from Downey showed the signs of facial collapse due to years of wear and tear on her teeth

Tempromandibular Joint (TMJ) And Jaw Repositioning

One common problem for folks with natural teeth, even after extensive orthodontic work, is malocclusion, also known as a bad bite. A bad bite can change your entire facial profile owing to the years of wear and tear on your teeth, especially if you wear dentures, have fixed dental bridges, or use removable dental bridges. That’s what happened with Renetta, whose bad bite created problems with her facial appearance and her TMJ.

Face Lift Dentistry ® - High Tech Dentist

Renetta was an ideal candidate for the Dental Face Lift ®, which is a complete restoration and rehabilitation of malocclusion, improving the facial profile and coordinating the teeth with the TMJ to create a proper bite. Renetta drove from Downey in order to have her Dental Face Lift ® procedure at Dr. Sam Muslin's Santa Monica office.

Dentures and Natural Teeth Wear Down

When dentures are poorly fitted, the deformation of the lower and upper arches can change a person's facial appearance for the worse. Lips, facial profile, speech, neck, and overall posture are all affected by the way in which your teeth fit together. Face Lift Dentistry ® is able to correct a bad bite by coordinating the teeth and the TMJ to create the maximum possible level of health and comfort. Face Lift Dentistry ® requires no surgical intervention whatsoever, making it affordable and comfortable for patients.

As teeth wear down (whether naturally or through wear on a denture), the facial profile becomes more and more out of balance. Renetta was attempting to adapt to a bite which was much too low, causing her jaw to be mis-positioned forward. Renetta's dentures wore down over time, and although she was able to adjust for her deep over-bite, it was constantly uncomfortable for her. Fortunately, Face Lift Dentistry ® restores a natural bite for patients like Renetta.

Dentists Excel In Different Skills

Renetta had never received great dental care and so she was unaware that her teeth could actually be comfortable, rather than a source of pain. She now understands that there are huge differences in the skill levels of general dentists, just as there are big differences in skill levels in all professions.

Denture Adhesives vs Implant Dentures

Dental implants can be used to make both upper and lower dentures more stable. When dentures are bonded to implants, this adds a mechanical retention factor that is significantly superior to dental adhesives used for dentures, such as Fixodent, Miracle Grip, PoliGrip, Sea-Bond, and Cushion Grip. Dental implants have the ability to hold dentures steady and stable, adding chewing power and preserving the jawbone for the best possible denture fit.

Face Lift Dentistry ® - How Long Does It Take?

Renetta's treatment to reconstruct her upper and lower dentures took about one month. She had to begin the process of learning her new bite, and was able to do this very quickly, especially when considering she had been "training" her mouth incorrectly for many years with her old, ill-fitting dentures. Dr. Muslin was able to use highly specialized and advanced denture materials to heat-process Renetta's dentures, using veined acrylic to match Renetta’s skin tone. She tells us now that her dentures look as good as they feel!
