Missing Teeth & Dental Implants
This patient had missing upper and lower teeth, as well as severe bone loss that made her upper teeth tilt forward. Consequently, her upper lip was getting pushed forward and the spaces between her teeth were getting wider. In order to get her lip to a normal position, the patient’s teeth need to be pushed back and the bite must be restored. The doctor and the patient came up with a treatment plan that would provide the best results and remain affordable for the patient: a combination of a fixed porcelain bridge and dental implants were used to replace some of the missing teeth.
Gum Disease & Gum Specialist
The patient’s restorative treatment was coordinated with periodontal treatment because the missing teeth, collapsed bite, bone loss and narrow bone made this case very complex. The Santa Monica periodontist implemented gum treatment and placed two implants. Since she drives from Los Angeles, Dr. Muslin wanted to make sure the patient's care was quick, organized and effective.

A porcelain dental bridge placed on her upper teeth replaced missing lateral incisors and gave the patient an immediate cosmetic improvement. Dental implants replaced the missing bicuspid teeth and restored her bite to a more stable position. Bite stability is critical for dental implants. Dental implants are round cylinders placed in the jawbone. They cannot withstand stress of lateral forces; lateral bite forces on dental implants causes improper loading of the implant, which could contribute to the eventual loss of the dental implant.
