High-Tech Dental Bonding
Dental bonding is a technique that integrates a natural tooth to a dental restoration. The surfaces of both materials are treated to create an "active" surface that will interlock microscopically for greater strength and seal. The goal of dental bonding is to make the filling, porcelain or gold restoration assimilate with the tooth for a perfect seal. Imagine the restoration integrating with the tooth structure in every dimension to such a degree that the two materials become one. Dental Bonding leads to the ultimate in strength and longevity for the dental restoration. View examples of our Dental Bonding case studies.
Dental Cementation vs. Dental Bonding
Today, the ultimate level of cosmetic dentistry would involve bonding every single white, composite filling, non-invasive porcelain veneer, gold or porcelain crown and inlay. Dental bonding, however, is time consuming, expensive to the dentist and technique sensitive. Approximately 30% of American Dentists will not be consistently successful with dental bonding. Dental cementation is an easier process in terms of technique and less expensive, but the union between the tooth and restoration is not as strong. Cementation breaks down in the mouth easier than dental bonding and can contribute to tooth sensitivity and decay. The dental cement can deteriorate under the restoration over time and cause fillings and crowns to fall off. Dental bonding materials are much more soluble and some of the best dental bonding materials give off fluoride for added protection against decay.
Cosmetic Dentistry and Dental Bonding
Bonding porcelain crowns and porcelain veneers has improved the possibilities for patient care. Patients who have dark yellow teeth can now have beautiful white teeth that last for many years. Patients worried about crooked teeth can now have straight teeth in just a couple of weeks. Those who have worn down or short teeth can have longer whiter teeth without grinding down the natural tooth structure. Cosmetic dentistry can now be a treatment of choice without damaging your natural teeth because of the creating of the dental bonding technique.
"Instant Braces" & Dental Bonding
Patients can have Instant Braces, which translates into straight white teeth in just two weeks. No grinding on the natural teeth, No shots and No damage to the patient in any way. The patient’s can pick the level of whiteness for their new porcelain veneers. Instant Braces provides cosmetic dentistry in a short period of time with results that have lasted over 25 years in some patients.

Non-Invasive Dentistry and Dental Bonding
Non-Invasive Dentistry is the greatest advantage of dental bonding. With the added strength of dental bonding, non-invasive cosmetic restorations can be extremely thin, yet durable. Thirty years ago, patients had to have porcelain fused to metal crowns or gold crowns, which required the teeth to be ground down in order to hold the crown to the tooth. There was a lot of damage to good teeth in order to create a better cosmetic dentistry smile. It was the best technology at the time and worked very well. Grinding down all of the teeth, though, can unnecessarily destroy tooth structure. Today’s non-invasive cosmetic dentistry provides a huge benefit because teeth can be restored without grinding them down. Additionally, a restoration can be extremely thin and natural looking. Dental bonding allows for the porcelain inlay, porcelain veneers or other dental restorations to be made to fit the hole in the tooth exactly and add strength to the remaining tooth structure.
Dental Bonding and Porcelain Veneers
Due to the invention of dental bonding, restorations that were never possible in the past have now become a reality. Teeth can now have a new surface bonded over the existing tooth structure without grinding down the tooth. A new, whiter, stronger, smoother surface can be added to the natural tooth. Many patients have said their teeth are now far less sensitive and feel much stronger. Porcelain veneers can make the teeth permanently whiter and a smile wider by adding to the teeth cheek surface of the teeth. The results can be stunningly natural.

Dental Bonding can make crooked teeth look straight in just 2 weeks!
Dental Bonding and Crooked Teeth
Cosmetic dentistry can make crooked teeth and teeth with spaces between them look perfectly straight in just two weeks. The patient can have white teeth, straight teeth and a protective porcelain veneer layer over their natural teeth to produce a cosmetic dentistry result that surpasses braces or orthodontics. The patient can transform their life in just two weeks and not have to wear a retainer.

Porcelain Crowns and Dental Bonding
Porcelain crowns stay on the tooth significantly better if they are bonded rather than cemented. The strength of dental bonding holds the crown to the tooth structure by interlocking the surface of the crown with the surface of the tooth and a bonding medium in the center. The dentist must be very careful in handling all surfaces and controlling the humidity (patient's breath) to keep them meticulously "active". Different surfaces are activated with different techniques so it is important that the dentist is familiar with these distinctions.
Dental Bonding and Fluoride
Some of the more recent studies have proven the benefits to fluoride rinses after a dental tooth cleaning. The fluoride can be absorbed in certain types of bonding materials and be slowly released to prevent tooth decay under the porcelain crowns, porcelain veneers or white fillings. The dentist must know which of these dental bonding materials has the ability to release fluoride and use them accordingly. Studies have proven a 30% decrease in recurrent dental decay when fluoride-releasing materials are used.
Dental Bonding and Face Lift Dentistry ®
Face Lift Dentistry® is the ultimate level of cosmetic dentistry to revitalize not only the teeth, but also the entire face. Dental bonding is used for all of the porcelain veneer or porcelain crown restorations. The patients’ teeth are covered, lengthened, whitened, straightened, balanced, and shaped to function to the highest possible level. The treatment is fast, non-invasive and the results can change a patient's life. (To view more Face-Lift Dentistry cases, please visit faceliftdentistry.com.)

The entire face is elongated. The patient looks years younger in just 2 weeks. His bite is more comfortable and his entire physical health improved. Lines were placed on the page to help visualize the lengthening of the lower part of the face.
Dental Bonding Failures
When a porcelain veneer comes off in one piece, the dental bonding was unsuccessful. If the bonding procedure was not performed in a specific order, or if there is any humidity during the process, the veneer will not integrate well with the tooth. When the porcelain veneer breaks off, on the other hand, it probably was bonded successfully. Another type of bonding failure would be if the tooth were hot and/or cold sensitive after bonding a porcelain or gold crown, white or composite filling or porcelain veneer. The teeth should not be sensitive after dental bonding; they should be completely comfortable and feel very natural.
If the dentist can successfully bond all of the dental restorations, the dentist will have less recurrent dental decay; less crowns or porcelain veneers will fall off, less tooth sensitivity and longer lasting dentistry. However, to successfully bond two surfaces together, the technique used by the dentist must be flawless. Cosmetic dentistry has dramatically improved with the development of dental bonding.
Dental Bonding and White Fillings
Composite fillings can be bonded for greater strength and less sensitivity but front teeth can also have dental bonding to repair broken teeth. Without any grinding or shots the broken tooth can be repaired to look completely natural.

Skateboard accident broke off two teeth that were repaired using dental bonding. The treatment was completed over 5 years ago and has worked perfectly.
Dental bonding of composite materials can repair broken teeth or change the shape of the intact teeth. this patient has the tooth on the right side of the picture bonded in order to lengthen it. The two teeth on the left side of the mouth were broken off from a skateboard and were bonded to repair the one and repair and lengthen the second tooth. After the accident, this patient had a better-looking smile than before the accident! The work has lasted over 5 years and still going.
